Christina Donoghue

Behind The Writing

Christina Donoghue is a recent graduate from Central Saint Martins with a great enthusiasm for art history and countercultures of the 20th Century. Her BA Honours in Fashion Journalism has led to her contributing to The Times, SHOWstudio and Marie Claire whilst also helping the curational team at Saatchi gallery.

With a longstanding interest in the underground press: a love of the tactile experience and the ‘DIY’ aesthetic has served her work well. Creating small hand-made documents in the form of a zine, her subjects in question range from David Bowie to fashion writer, Cathy Horyn.

Taking advantage of growing up on the outskirts of London, Christina has always visited the city’s offerings of galleries and exhibitions from a young age. Wanting to capture these experiences in their entirety, she armed herself with a pen and paper, swapping her diary entries for reviews which saw her interest in fashion and art writing spring to life.

During her four years of studying, Christina has also collaborated with a small team of people to edit two magazines, which has seen her interview the likes of fashion and lifestyle designer, Margaret Howell, renowned jewellery designer and long-time collaborator of Alexander McQueen, Shaun Leane, and model-turned artist, muse to photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, David Croland. Leane and Croland were both interviewed for her degree project, Atelier  Magazine, which aims to profile the makers of this generation and bring back the beauty and romance to the hand-made amidst the digital era.
